Bites of the Month

As of May 2023

I’m excited for this one: Here are the best bites I had in April!

Caviar service is always good, but Pio Pio’s version is great. They come with many mini freshly made warm blinis, crème fresh with the perfect amount of chives, and a bunch of mini deviled quail eggs which are an awesome touch. Ask Laura for a recommendation for a bottle of wine or bubbles to go with it!

The lechon at Apa is a step above any I’ve tried on the island and is probably one of the best pork dishes I’ve ever had. The skin is perfectly salty and crunchy, and the meat is super flavorful and tender. Get all the sides and appetizers as well. Everything’s great!

The cheese soufflé at Pio Pio is new on the menu and one of the best bites I’ve had here in a while. The cheese is from the awesome local Vaca Negra and it’s light, airy, and delicious. We had it paired with a great sparkling rose. Highly recommend.

While Kemuri is known for its various pork katsu dishes, don’t sleep on the pork belly. It’s perfectly cooked, simmered in soy broth, and comes with asparagus and egg. One of the best bites I had all month and great to share.

Hand Cut Fries at La Cueva del Chicken Inn

La Cueva del Chicken Inn is the quintessential Puerto Rican old school joint. Pizza is the main event, but their homemade hand cut fries were some of the best I’ve had on the island.

Everything from Cafe Regina is great, my current favorite is the breakfast egg sandwich. It’s light, fluffy, and has the right amount of sauce.

Cheese Flan from Via Appia

Via Appia is a very fun place to drink and eat pizza outside with a group of friends, and while you might not think of ordering dessert, their cheese flan is one of my favorite desserts on the island.

What do you love that I should try next?
