(New to the list: Pizza Boy, La Cueva del Chicken Inn)

I love pizza. If I really wanted to, I could very embarrassingly (or impressively, depending on how you look at it), eat an entire NY sized pie by myself. It is also not a stretch for me to imagine that in another lifetime I was guy who they made a documentary about who had only eaten pizza every day for 30 years. I also don’t discriminate against different styles of pizza, probably since I have had many phases loving them all. I grew up eating only Kosher, and so my initial preference was based on the classic Kosher NJ pizza: doughy, cheesy, and opted for sweeter sauces. There are still few things that taste better than a pie of pizza just moments after Passover ends. Once I started eating non-Kosher, the next evolution of my pizza preferences was Artichoke, then Sicilian. Next came the Brooklyn/Neapolitan evolution from Roberta’s and Paulie Gees (before their slice shop), but eventually I swung to the other side of the fence and now think nothing is better than a classic Joe’s or Paulie Gee’s slice. So it’s very important to me to have access to a broad pizza selection of good pizza, and thankfully this is one of the restaurant categories that San Juan has a lot of. Here are my favorites on the island.

The Pizza List

Pannoteca San Miguel

(Pizza Nights on Thursdays, plus Natural Wines)

Santurcina

(Walk in Neapolitan style, worth the wait)

Pimentón

(My favorite is the one in the gas station, plus Luigi is great)

Puttanesca Trattoria

(Best NY slice I’ve had here and best for delivery)

Via Appia’s

(Definitely drinking-activity-forward)

La Cueva del Chicken Inn

(An institution serving the island’s first stone oven pizza since 1950)

Pizza Boy

(Bar style pizza joint that’s been in Dorado forever, for good reason)

*Special Joe Pick*

Grazie Pizza at La Marqueta

Cano’s Pizza Palace

(Bar pizza in Levittown, fun weekend vibe)

Disclaimer: I haven’t tried Fidela pizza since I don’t eat pizza for lunch and it’s always sold out by the time I want it. I’ve only heard awesome things about it and am excited to try their rumored brick and mortar location once opened.
